Our main area of interest is the evolution of diversity in pathogens including viruses (influenza, HIV, HBV, HCV, DENV), bacteria (pneumococcus, meningococcus) and parasitic protozoa (plasmodium falciparum). We use simple mathematical models to generate new hypotheses regarding the processes that determine the population structure of these pathogens. More recently we have been employing these models to develop and test new vaccines.
