Research Interests

My main research focus is looking at how mutations in the exonuclease domain of Polymerase (Pol) delta affect the viability and alter the phenotype of Schizosaccharomyces pombe (fission yeast) cells. I model equivalent cancer-causing mutations found in human pol delta into S.pombe pol delta. The region of the exonuclease domain that these mutations are located are conserved in humans, mammals, yeast and bacteria. The aim of my research, together with mammlian work and in vitro work undertaken by our collaborators, is to inform genetic testing of these germline mutations, that cause endometrial and/or colon cancer, in a hospital setting.
