My research interests are in behavioural ecology and the evolution of social behaviour.
For my DPhil project I am investigating the interaction between sexual selection and parental care behaviour. Post-mating parental care is common across taxa, yet the degree to which each parent is involved in care and the ways in which they invest varies widely. Sexual selection is often assumed to act most strongly on the less caring sex yet there are likely to be multiple contexts in which sexually selected behaviours and traits evolve in caring parents.
I will use a combination of meta-analysis and behavioural experiments on fish to explore how sexual selection can influence investment in parental care in both males and females.
