My research focuses on understanding the evolutionary biology of viruses of vertebrates across geological timescales. We take advantage of the viral fossil record in the genomes of vertebrates and the virus–transposon duality of some viruses to uncover their diversity and evolutionary history in deep time. By using approaches from palaeovirology and computational biology, we aim to gain insights into the origin and diversification of these viruses.
