My research interests include pandemic prevention, virology, microbiology, immunology and pathogen evolution. My main project concerns characterising animal and human humoral immunity to potentially pandemic swine and avian influenza strains. The overarching goal of the project is to design a vaccine against potentially pandemic influenza viruses by targeting low variability epitopes on the haemagglutinin glycoprotein. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic I have conducted population serosurveys and studied the mechanistic action of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Bioinformatics is instrumental in informing my experimental work, therefore I split my time half and half between programming and lab work. My work is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
