About the Group

The Mathematical Ecology Research Group (headed by Michael Bonsall) is based in the Department of Zoology. We undertake cross-disciplinary research using mathematical approaches to explore novel and rewarding problems in ecology, evolution, health and economics.

Research in the group addresses a wide range of questions broadly concerning population biology (in developmental biology, population dynamics, community ecology, evolutionary ecology and health). Many of these projects involve the development of theoretical models in conjunction with experiments or observations in the field or laboratory. To this end, we aim to test different hypotheses by using relevant mathematical models and approaches appropriate to experimental (or observational) data.

We are enthusiastic about science, its dissemination and teaching. Members of the group teach and tutor, principally on the Biological Sciences undergraduate degree course. We undertake a range of outreach activities and further details of these can be found on our group website:
