I am working as a DPhil student with Cristian Capelli in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford. I am currently designing techniques that will be used for the molecular characterisation of low-recombination genomic regions, and which will be used to investigate population genetic history in southern Africa. Analysis will involve both slow and fast evolving markers (SNPs and STRs) in order to study Bantu-farmer introgression with hunter-gatherer populations in southern Africa and the structure within southern African populations. Molecular dating techniques will also be used in order to understand the timing of these events, and to help place them within other known events in the origins of modern humans in Africa.
