Autobiography

I completed my B.Sc. at the Department of Plant Physiology at Comenius University in Bratislava (2008). I was interested in genetic transformation of round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) for the potential overproducing of secondary metabolites that are used in cancer therapy. I´ve continued my study (M.Sc.) at Department of Zoology under the supervision of Dr. David Jandzik. My M.Sc. project deals with various aspects of reproductive biology of the common lizard (Zootoca vivipara) and I am specifically interested in ecological factors influencing variation in female´s reproductive traits.

Research Activities

During my stay at EGI I will work on maternal effects ith Dr Tobias Uller. I will investigate whether females allocate resources to reproduction in response to the quality of her partner (differential allocation vs. reproductive compensation hypothesis). I want to look at female allocation decisions using meta-analysis to find out if there are general patterns of investment within and between species. I will also conduct experimental tests of differential allocation in wall lizards and its implications for offspring development. In addition, in collaboration with Dr Caroline Isaksson I will investigate the impact of incubation temperature on oxidative cell damage during embryonic development in wall lizards.
