I graduated from Oxford University in 2008 with a 1st class degree in Biological Sciences. During my undergraduate years I became interested in Ornithology, bird conservation, and later, Evolutionary Ecology of birds. As part of my undergraduate degree, I completed a research project on the conservation of the kereru - New Zealand pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae), under the supervision of Dr Andy Gosler.
During my DPhil, supervised by Prof Ben Sheldon and Dr Teddy Wilkin, I will investigate dispersal decisions in juvenile great tits (Parus major) and their subsequent effects on the fitness of individuals, structuring of the population and patterns of selection. I intend to investigate the assembly of winter foraging groups, the characteristics of different groups, and the fitness effects of winter social behaviour on first-time breeders.
