Conference Background

These conferences (which started in 1947) are primarily intended as places for students to present work in a constructive atmosphere, composed mostly of their peers. In addition to undergraduates, graduate students and very early career postdocs a small contingent of benevolent elder academics also attend. The main emphasis is on the conference as a format for students to present their own work.

Historically the conference has always been held at the EGI in Oxford. In future it is intended that the conference will be sometimes be hosted elsewhere in departments with a strong history in ornithology and a link with the EGI. The first such 'satellite' conference was held at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in January 2006.
